Turbine blade
Product description
A turbine blade is characterized by its free model and complex 3D design on the surface and tight tolerances on the leading and trailing edges. Blades or vanes are often designed in Titanium or Nickel based alloys as Inconel.
Application
These blades are used in aero engines and gasturbines. When manufactured out of one piece it is called a Blisc (bladed disc).
How it’s made
Blades are difficult to machine through the 3D complex shape and material type. When machined as blisc it is requires special machining techniques with conventional machining. By using ECM the complex geometry is covered by the design of the electrode which is initially complex, but gives an extreme repeatability. The material machining speed is almost independent on the choice of the material as ECM dissolves the material.
Advantage of using ECM
By applying ECM, a 3D complex shaped part of Titanium or Inconel can be machined in less then 5 minutes with high tolerances and high quality surface.
